2008 News

08/16 - 08/17 - Thank you to everyone who helped with Fill the Boot, we raised $5,675.50. Over the last 5 years we have raised $34,000.00 for MDA.
8/13 - At the August union meeting complying with the change in the by-laws Trevor Crivello was elected treasurer and Joe Couture was elected the union's secretary.
08/12 - Firefighter candidates Ryan Nelson and Jeff Miller are sworn in. They are filling the two open vacancies.
07/21 - The pension hearing for Firefighter Dan Skidds has been postponed until a date to be determined due to a doctor issue. Thanks for being patient.
6/11 - 6/14/08 - The AFFI Biennial Convention hosted in Peoria by Local 50 brother Dennis Ostrander and President Eric Hair attended.
05/26 - Firefighter Tom Kriss resigned his position from our department to accept a position with the Naperville Fire Department Local 4302. We thank him for his 9 months of service and wish him well in the future.
05/20 - Firefighter Chris Grazier resigned his position from our department to accept a position with the Roberts Park F.P.D. We thank him for his 38 months of service and wish him well in the future.
05/17 - Local 4235 3rd Annual Bowling Tournament & Fundraiser at Kristof's. Thanks to all of our sponsors and participants.
05/14 - With the Lieutenants finally in our union the postponed elections were held. President Eric Hair was relected and Mike Bloom was elected to the Vice President's position. It was also decided to ammend our bylaws to seperate the secretary-treasurer's position into 2 seperate positions. This and the stewards election should be held at the June meeting.
05/02 - Local 4235 and the fire district have their first meeting for contract negotiations. The next meeting is set for May 27.
04/30 - After 3 years our first contract with the fire district and now our members are working without a current contract.
04/17 -The Lieutenants vote with the Illinois Labor Relations Board on the matter of joining the firefighters union. The vote goes 9 – 0 in favor.
03/17 - After 30 years of fulltime service and a total of 35 years of service to the citizens of Round Lake, Deputy Chief Tom Krueger retired.
02/11 - After 16 months of waiting, the ILRB ruled in favor of the joining the union.
01/10 - The Lake County board appointed Thomas Bueller and Patrick Anderson as fire district trustees, increasing the number of trustees from 3 to 5. Click here to see the minutes.

2007 News

12/17 - Firefighter Jay Vande Berg was presented the Medal of Valor from the town of Round Lake for his part in the rescue of a victim that was trapped in her vehicle and submerged in a retention pond back in October. Click here to view the article.
11/09 - Northern District meeting in Waukegan. After the meeting a rally was held outside of city hall where Local 473 members are asking for the removal of the chief. The union has also filed a 68 page ULP with the state.
11/07 - Local 4235 decided to get politically active and circulated petitions to have the appointed board of trustees changed to an elected board, as well as increase the board from a 3 person to a 5 person board. After collecting over 1,600 signatures, we had enough to put the board increase on the February ballot, but fell short of the requirement to put the elected board question on the ballot. The fire district decided to increase the board from 3 to 5 anyway as a result.
10/20 - 10/25 - Members of local 4235 attended The John P. Redmond Safety Symposium hosted by Chicago Firefighters Local 2.
10/24 - Firefighter Mike Bloom was presented a scholarship awarded by the Lake County Fire Chiefs Association as part of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Scholarship program.
10/09 - Lieutenant Pat Walker was promoted to Captain, Firefighter Dennis Ostrander was promoted to Lieutenant, and Jeff Fanning sworn in as a candidate Firefighter at the board meeting.
9/07 - After 28+ years full time and a total of over 30 years serving the citizens of Round Lake Captain Tom Thompson has retired. We would like to thank Tom for his service and dedication to the department and the citizens that it protects.
9/29 - 9/30 - 4th annual Fill the Boot for the MDA. This year we raised $6,279.86 for a total of over $28,000 over the last 4 years.
9/11 - Tom Kriss is sworn in as a candidate Firefighter at the board meeting.

5/08 - There were three promotions and one new firefighter sworn in at the board meeting. The promotions were as follows: John Whitten to Deputy Chief, Tony Carraro to Captain, and Paul Willen to Lieutenant. Brad Verensky was sworn in as a probationary firefighter.
4/07 - Erich Castillo is sworn in by the fire district as a candidate Firefighter.
2/17 - 4th annual anniversary party.
2/07 - Eric Levernier resigned to accept a position with Lincolnshire-Riverwoods F.P.D. Local 4224. We wish him good luck in the future.

2006 News

12/19 - Scott Schmidt, Eric Levernier and Jared Dolan sworn in as candidate Firefighters.
12/13 - Hearing with the ILRB in regards to the Lieutenants joining the union.
12/12 - Board of Fire Commissioners meeting regarding discipline for Dan Skidds.
10/27 - Suspension Party held for Mike Bloom at Jimmy V's Sports Bar. Mike had to serve a 5 shift day unpaid suspension for unjust discipline administered by the fire district. Thanks to all that came out to support Mike and his family including firefighters from Round Lake, Schaumburg Local 4092, Libertyville Local 3892, Evanston Local 742, Grayslake, Highland Park Local 822, Lincolnshire Local 4224, and other area departments.
10/06 - Firefighters Jim Devito, Bill Schroeder and Shane Page are promoted to Lieutenant. They are the first union members to be promoted since we organized. After their promotion and the hiring of the 3 replacement firefighters our local will have 23 firefighters and 9 lieutenants bringing us to a total of 32 members. Our department only has 37 sworn employees.
09/06 - All 6 current Lieutenants sign cards and ask President Hair to file petitions with the fire district and labor board to join the union
8/26 - 8/27 - Annual "Fill the Boot" for the MDA and once again we beat our goal and raised over $7,500.00 this year. Since we started collecting for MDA in 2003 we have collected over $21,000.00 in donations
5/16 - Paul Willen, Jared Dolan and Dan Skidds receive commendation from the Round Lake Park-Hainesville Police Department for going above and beyond the call of duty in assisting the police in detaining a suspect. Click here to read the commendation letter.
5/9 - Andrew Wells and Trevor Crivello sworn in as candidate Firefighters.
5/4 - Suspension Party held for Dan Skidds at Buffalo Wild Wings. Thanks to all that came out to support Dan and his family including firefighters from Waukegan Local 473, Schaumburg Local 4092, North Chicago Local 3271, Libertyville Local 3892, and Woodstock.

1/10 - Jon Mumford sworn in as a candidate Firefighter.

2005 News

12/21 - Matt Schultz resigned from the department to accept a position with Woodstock F.P.D. We wish him well and thank him for the time he spent with us.
9/04 - 10/14 - Local 4235 assists the New Orleans Fire Department with manpower and 2630 after hurricane Katrina. Those members were Jim Devito, Bill Schroeder, Eric Beck, Joe Couture and Neal Fischer.
8/27 - 08/28 - Local 4235 2nd annual Fill The Boot for MDA raises over $7100.00.
6/14 - Lonnie Langel, Neal Fischer and Greg Armstrong are sworn in as candidate Firefighters
3/18 - The Union voted to ratify their first contract with the District by a vote of 14 to 3. For more details on the contract please visit the Contract Update page.
3/08 - Chris Grazier sworn in as a candidate firefighter.
2/21 - At the February union meeting the officers election was held. Shift Steward Dan Zeimet was elected to the Vice President's position, while Eric Hair and Joe Couture kept their current positions as President and Secretary/Treasurer, respectively.
2/05 - FF/PM and Gold shift steward John Sherwood resigned from the fire department and accepted a position at the Countryside Fire Protection District. John was with the department as a P.O.C. for 3 years and a full-time career firefighter for 5 years. He was one of our most senior members and a friend to us all. We wish him luck and continued success in the fire service.

12/06 - Local 4235 members Eric Beck, Jim DeVito and Chris Grazier, along with Lt. Jim Wodrich respond to Chicago as part of the M.A.B.A.S. response to staff their stations during the LaSalle Bank fire.
12/03 - 2nd Annual Fund Raiser: "Cash for Christmas Raffle" Drawing was held at Moretti's in Fox Lake
10/12 - Eric Beck & Jamie Keubker are sworn in as candidate Firefighters.
10/01 - Jason Masheris resigns from the department to take a position with Countryside F.P.D. We wish him well with his new position.
8/30 - Memorial service for Trustee Paul Willen Sr.

11/30 - Local 4235 1st Annual Fund Raiser Drawing
7/05 - Dave Ashcraft resigns to take a position with the Schaumburg Fire Department Local 4092. Good luck Dave.
4/01 - Mike Bloom, Dave Ashcraft and Barry Edgar are sworn in as candidate firefighters and are the first new members to join the union.
2/20 - Ben Freil leaves the fire district to pursue other endeavors.
1/27 - Ron Echtonacher and Rocco Campanella both resign from the district. Ron is going to Countryside F.P.D. and Rocky is going to Zion, Local 1999. We wish both of them the best of luck.
1/03 - Members signed cards and requested a vote with the labor board to organize.
1/02 - The sworn members meet with the board of trustees to express their concerns over the way they are being treated by management and the direction the department is being directed in.
